Living torch
All is silent and black
The moon blinks and becomes full from nothing
The hill screams and erupts
The pencil sketched ground is illuminated by the hand of god
Biology textbooks hit the ground and split open
The hill erupts once more and from its peak a river of lava descends upon Primordia
(Ferns sway out of its path)
The hill gurgles and from the pool of molten rock a stone human rises
Unmoving, it descends on its raft
My vision sways and I join the statue
An offering for the first man
The palm trees bend down and lift me up with their fronds
Lava turns over granite hills and tills the soil beneath
The torrent of flame joins all things
Suddenly all is known and the palm trees lift me higher above the clouds
The footsteps of an empty olympus
Hearth flameless, coals still smoking becoming clouds, becoming rain, dousing the cataclysm below
Gazing down, the lava river has hardened and little yellow stripes line its middle
The hills have melted, leaving behind bricks
